Hawker Hunter F.4 Mk 50 J 34 Fv34071 at Såtenäs
This is a closer look at the RSwAF Hunter shown in picture #4952
, during the RSwAF 80th anniversary air show.
120 Hunters were bought and delivered between 1955 and 1957 to the RSwAF, which designated them J 34 (J = Jaktplan = Fighter). They were meant to be a stopgap until all Swedish fighter squadrons received the Draken, and this was the case; all the Hunters were withdrawn and most scrapped by 1969. The final Hunter squadron was based at F9 Säve, outside Gothenburg, in the underground hangar that is now the Aeroseum where I am a guide. This is signified by the blue band around the nose. Unfortunately we don't have a Hunter in the museum (yet) but I live in hope!
