I regret to report that this aircraft crashed on April 4, 2012, killing the pilot, Howard Pardue, shortly after take-off from Stephens County airport, near Breckinridge, West Texas, USA.
Howard joined the US Marine Corps in 1953 and following training at NAS Pensacola flew the Grumman F9F Panther, NA FJ-4 Fury, Vought F8U Crusader, McD Douglas F-4 Phantom and Douglas A-4 Skyhawk. He retired with the rank of Major after 12 years.
THis aircraft was the oldest surviving Bearcat, registered as NL14HP, and was the 10th of 23 development aircraft built by Grumman in early 1945.
