As the first customer for the Mark 31M, the RCAF received serial number 9850 (airframe 13253) in 1957.
These Bristol Type 170s were used by 137 Transport Flight RCAF to deliver supplies and equipment - up to 11, 000 lbs at a time - from 30 Air Material Base at Langar, Nottinghamshire, to the four Wings of Canada's NATO Air Division based in France and Germany. 9850 joined Wardair in 1968 as CF-WAD.
