World's First Metal-Framed Aircraft.

This is a replica of a plane built and flown by Herbert Pither on 5th July 1910 at Oreti Beach in the South Island of New Zealand. The Croydon Aircraft Company in Mandeville built it to specifications available. I took around 40 photos at the 100th celebratory centennary on the same date 100 years later. Pilot was Gerry Chisholm, an accomplished pilot, had a number of flights that day. Pither had no experience and he and his team camped on the beach for three days before the weather cleared sufficiently for him to fly it. Google Pither for more information.
