If Mr. McQueen was alive today and saw this "thing" that he used to fly he would just shack his head. He would not have liked what the new owners have done too his plane and how they dolled it up. Mr. McQueen loved how a machine "worked" and the interaction between man and machine grease, oil, dirt, fuel stains and all. IF Mr. McQueen was out looking for a plane today he would look for the worst looking rag wing and roll up his sleeves and get working to get it to fly. I hope that someday when this now "beauty queen" comes up for sale that who ever obtains it that he or she will "undue" the beauty parlor work and un-restore this old girl to her "working class" McQueen days.
Wheel pants, please..... give me a break, see what happens when people have "too" much money, get this airplane back too what it looked like when owned by Mr. McQueen, take off the lipstick and put her back in blue jeans.

This is the very same as N3188 was delivered to him the first week or so in December 1979. It was rebuilt strickly to his specs including real leather around the cockpit cowl. I was the pilot who delivered it from Hayti MO

You guys are so un informed
The airplane is very close to exactly how Steve had it restored by Mid-continent
The paint scheme is same other than dark blue added to belly bottom of tail feathers
Wheel pants same, engine & Prop same
Leather around cockpits same
So whats with the Dolled up comments?

The airplane was worn out when purchased.
We took it down to "0" and built it back as good or better

Wonder what you guys say about his Pitcarin Mailwing he bought from Jack Laning when it was at the Santa Paula Fuel
Pump? That was a fresh restoration

Steve McGueen was a class act...and so is this airplane. What the hell do you know what he would think? He went to Mexico in hopes of getting himself fixed up to run again....give me a break! Be glad that someone cares enough about his plane to give it the look it deserves!! I still think Steve McQueen was the best thing since sliced bread!
