Hawker Hind in Afghan colours
Photographed in the RAF Museum, Cosford, on 23 May 2011. See also picture #935
This aircraft was presented to the RAF Museum by the Royal Afghan Air Force in 1968. It differs from British Hinds (the RAF's last biplane light bomber) in certain details. The Royal Afghan Air Force took delivery of 18 Hinds between 1938 and 1940, and these remained in service until 1956.
There is an airworthy Hind, also from Afghanistan, in the Shuttleworth Collection. My father, who was an RAF rigger, worked on this and similar types of aircraft in the 1930s.
