Ilyushin
The Ilyushin Design Bureau is a Russian design bureau and aircraft manufacturer, founded by Sergey Vladimirovich Ilyushin. Its operations began on January 13, 1933; an early design was the DB-3 long range bomber, and by 1939 it had designed the Shturmovik ground-attack aircraft, the record number of 36,163 being manufactured . After WW2 Ilyushin produced a number of transport aircraft. The Il-28 jet bomber appeared in 1958, with over 3,000 being built. The next major airliner was the Il-62 in 1963, and then the heavy lift Il-76 in 1971. A wide-body airliner, the Il-86 flew in 1976, then the more efficient Il-96. The Russian government has merged Ilyushin with Mikoyan, Irkut, Sukhoi, Tupolev, and Yakovlev under a new company named United Aircraft Corporation.
