During 1918, the Aircraft Department of the engineering and shipbuilding company founded by Shozo Kawasaki was established at the Hyogo Works in Japan. The Aircraft Department became Kawasaki Aircraft Co., Ltd. in 1937. Kawasaki manufactured aircraft—including what many consider to be the best Japanese fighter of the war— before and during WW2 and again after 1954. At present, the company is manufacturing the Kawasaki-developed MBB K117 helicopter and portions of the Boeing 777.
